FAQ Test
All FAQs:
Maybe you’ve done the math: Even if you practice for 10 hours a day, 14 days straight, that’s still only 140 hours of study! From where do the additional 60 hours come?
We purposefully crafted our 14-day 200-hour RYT training for the busy yoga student. So, we’ve included a self-study portion of the program that you can complete before or after the training — or even during your free time here at Blue Osa!
We have created this self-study portion to choose how you would like to use your FREE time at Blue Osa. In our old schedule, we would start at five in the morning and practice until nine at night, with breaks only for meals. It was a lot! With our revised schedule, you get to study with your teacher, learn yoga on the beach, and still have time to enjoy paradise.
The self-study portion will become available to you two months before you arrive at Blue Osa. Alternatively, we’ve created intentional pockets of free time during your schedule so that you can further your studies here at Blue Osa. (See the daily schedule above.)
After the training, we offer continued support to ensure you leave Blue Osa as a safe, confident yoga instructor.
Plus, our 14-day 200-hour RYT meets Yoga Alliance’s international certification standards — so you can rest assured our program meets the highest level of global educational policies.
Your completed book report must include the following:
1. Your name.
2. Title of book.
3. 2 – 4 paragraph overview of the book.
4. What are the most compelling points of the book to you?
5. How has this book impacted your view of yoga, your yoga practice?
Book reports are due within three months of your YTT end date. For example, if the completion of the YTT is November 16, then the assignments will be due by February 16.
The book reports need to be completed in order for us to award you the 200 or 300 hours Yoga Teacher Certification.
To receive YTT certification from Blue Osa you must demonstrate that you are able to teach the yoga postures safely and clearly. You will receive a formal evaluation of your performance after instructing your final class.
To receive YTT certification from Blue Osa you must complete all of the self-study work and final assignments and book reports.

For those who really need a place of quiet, we do have a place behind our office area that is quiet enough to hold meetings or private zoom calls.
We have created a pricing structure that already includes the group leader discounts. In other words, the group leader discount is baked into the price of the package.
For each package, we have blocked out a specific amount of rooms, and invite group leaders to fill those rooms as needed.
If you need more rooms, we invite you to consider choosing a larger group package.
We are very fortunate to be in the jungle and have great internet service. (10Mbs +)
The internet we offer, through the guest network, offers high speed. (Yogi Aaron uses it to teach his online classes and conferences.)

Yogi Aaron is the owner, operator, and lead yoga facilitator at Blue Osa. During his 30 years of study, Yogi Aaron has developed an intrinsic understanding of yogic philosophy, anatomy, and the subtle body. He has studied under yogic masters such as Alan Finger, Bryan Kest, Genny Kapuler, Rod Stryker, Swami Rama, and David Swenson, among others.
Throughout his journey, Aaron has made several pilgrimages to the Himalayas, where he sought a deeper understanding of the Vedic tradition and Tantric pathways. These experiences blessed him with the opportunity to mentor under several spiritual masters and inspired him to create a yogic community in the lush Costa Rican jungle. Creator of Applied Yoga Anatomy + Muscle Activation™ Yogi Aaron brings three decades worth of study, mentorship, and experience into his teachings, with a strong emphasis on yoga therapy and alignment.
Yogi Aaron’s sense of humor, contagious laugh, courageous and adventurous spirit, and his own healing journey of overcoming pain and discovering and living his true life’s purpose makes him a stand-out and favored leading yoga teacher today.

LIVING WITH THE HIMALAYAN MASTERS by Swami Rama
The late Sri Swami Rama recalls his spiritual journey in this memoir. Using specific incidents to illustrate spiritual truths, he presents a practical guide for those embarking on the Hindu path of enlightenment. “I will tell you how I grew up and how I was trained, about the great sages with whom I lived and what they taught me, not through lectures and books but through experiences,” writes Sri Swami Rama in the opening pages of this timeless saga.
These stories record his quest for truth and enlightenment. Inspiring, illuminating, entertaining, mystifying, and frequently humorous, they bring you face-to-face with the great Himalayan Masters.
SACRED WATERS by Stephen Alter
Sacred Waters: A Pilgrimage up the Ganges River to the Source of Hindu Culture
This is an account of a journey taken in India. The destination is the source of the Ganges, the holy and most famous of Indian rivers. It is a physical journey, involving train rides across the vast plains and passages on foot far into snow-covered valleys and mountains. It is also a spiritual journey, taking a man deep into the heart and soul of the ancient religious culture of India.
Stephen Alter, who was born in the Himalayan foothills, crosses many miles, and several millennia, to search for the source of Indian religion. Along the way, as he reaches one holy spot after another, meeting grounds for pilgrims, remote towns, and forgotten temples, he delves into the myths and traditions of an antique land. He explores the tales of heroic derring-do, evil and good. He recounts the great stories of death, warfare, passions, and sacred wisdom that animate the vibrant history and religious traditions of India. As every pilgrim learns, a spiritual search involves travel but ultimately returns to the inner self. Sacred Waters is a richly told narrative of beautiful land and a man’s interior journey, and is for readers everywhere who seek to plumb their own spiritual sources.

Kalimath is the only place where the goddess Kali is worshipped along with her sisters Laxmi and Saraswati. No idol is worshipped in the temple. Instead, the Sri Yantra is the object of devotion. On one day each year, the goddess is taken out, and Puja is performed at midnight, with only the chief priest present.

2. Take a donkey or horse up the mountain. Please be warned that pilgrims have been known to fall off them.
3. Ascend the mountain by helicopter. If it is still available at this time of year, which is weather dependent, we will set this up the day before our climb.
Sept 18 – Day 11: Spend the day in Kedarnath
Spend the day exploring, praying, meditating, or hiking. There are numerous hikes from this point.
Kedarnath: Located 14 km above an uphill trek from Gaurikund, Kedarnath is one of the Chota Char Dhams in Northern India of Hinduism. The temple, which houses a Jyotirlinga, was constructed by the Pandavas and was rebuilt by Adi Shankaracharya.
According to legends, the Pandavas were supposed to have pleased Shiva with their penance here. Here are some interesting facts related to the temple-
As per Hindu mythology, the Pandavas killed their relatives during the Mahabharata war. To absolve themselves from the sin, they went on a pilgrimage. But Shiva was away to Kailasa in the Himalayas.
When the Pandavas came to know about this, they left Kashi and reached the Himalayas through Haridwar. They saw Shiva from a distance, but he hid. But the Pandavas were determined to meet him so that their sins were washed away.
The place where Shiva hid is now a famous shrine called Guptakashi(Rudraprayag).
From Guptakashi, the Pandavas went to Gaurikund in the Himalayas to look for Shiva. There, Nakul and Sahadev came across a buffalo with a unique look. Bhima followed the buffalo with his mace. But he could not catch the buffalo though he was able to hit it with his mace. The buffalo hid its face in a crevice.
Bhima started pulling it by its tail. During the tug of war, the buffalo’s face went to Nepal, while its rear part remained in Kedar. The place where the face fell is now called Doleshwar Mahadev in Sipadol, Bhaktapur, Nepal. From the hind part, a Jyotirlinga appeared. Shiva appeared from the light, and by seeing him, the Pandavas were absolved from all their sins.
According to another legend, Nara and Narayana, two incarnations of Vishnu performed severe penance in Badrikashraya of Bharat Khand in front of a Shivalingam made from earth. Satisfied with their devotion, Shiva appeared before them and told them to ask for a boon. Both Nar and Narayan requested Shiva to make Kedarnath a permanent abode to ensure that people worshipping him gain freedom from all their miseries.
Sept 20 – Day 12: Hike down from Kedarnath and Drive to Rudra Prayag
We will have an early start to our day and begin hiking down to Gaurikund. (Breakfast will not be included this morning. Please have some snacks ready.)
Once we have regrouped, we will have a short drive to Rudra Prayag where will have the afternoon to enjoy a special surprise and delicious dinner. We will be staying at the fabulous Monal Resort. There is a beautiful pilgrim walk we will do once we have arrived at the hotel.
Sept 20 – Day 13: Rudra Prayag to New Delhi
We will depart in the early morning from Rudra Prayag, drive to Rishikesh to catch our flights, and then back to the Imperial Hotel. Once we arrive at the hotel in Delhi, we will have a final farewell dinner.
For those people who are on a tighter schedule and prefer to leave this day, you will be able to catch a flight out of Delhi if it is 11 PM or later. Any earlier and you may run the risk of missing your trip in the event we are delayed getting to Delhi. We are expecting to arrive in Delhi by 6:00 PM.
Sept 21 – Day 14: Go home
You may leave when you would like. A list of suggested activities will be made available for you. The fees for these activities are NOT apart of your package.
If your flight leaves later this day, then you will be able to take advantage of all that Delhi has to offer. We might suggest using this day to visit the Taj Mahal. If you need help making plans, let us know. The Imperial Hotel will also be able to help plan any activities.
Prices do NOT include incidentals, such as the cost of international flights, lunches, incidentals, laundry, gratuities, and anything else that is not on this list. The fee also does not cover the cost of any missed flights or travel delays. We strongly suggest you arrive a day or two early so that you will be on time for your flights and training. If you are late arriving and miss your local flight, you will be responsible for joining the group in Rishikesh. Wifi is also very limited in Kedarnath.

When will we begin?
These Yoga Teacher Training Immersions officially begin the first day, September 2, at 3:00 PM. You will need to make sure you are at the Great Ganga Hotel by then.
We strongly encourage you to take part in the pre0-trip with us, so that you meet the group and teachers in Delhi prior to the training.
Arrive to the training on time. Anytime missed will require you to make up hours if you require certification.
When will we end?
These immersions will officially end on the final evening, September 15.
This will allow you to leave at anytime you need to on September 16.
We do encourage you to join us on our journey to Kedarnath, as it will be a perfect end to this incredible journey you have embarked upon. The journey will end in New Delhi on September 21, allowing you to leave for home at anytime during the day.
There are many ways to book flights, but we strongly suggest you to use Cheri, Blue Osa’s international travel agent. She is not only the best, but will help you find the best possible rates and route. Save your valuable time and use Cheri.
Blue Osa will be hosting this teacher training in Rishikesh. Rishikesh does not allow for alcohol or meat. There will be an option to have eggs.
You will absolutely love the cuisine served at the Great Ganga!
This Yoga Teacher Training to India will only be offered one time, September 2 – 16, 2021. We are expecting 20 people to take part in this teacher training.
Alcohol is strictly forbidden in Rishikesh. It will not be available.
We highly suggest that you do not ship anything here. It will be a lot of effort and what you send will end up stuck in the Customs Office. Additionally, we do not offer any customer support in this area.
If you do decide to ship something to us, please assume full responsibility for its arrival at Blue Osa.
Our dining area and experience within it has been carefully crafted and the playlists have been curated to represent our brand. Group leaders with exclusive use contracts may ask us to turn the music off if they do not wish music to be played during meal times.
Because we are in the jungle, any electronics are subject to breaking down at any moment.
We encourage group leaders to let go of the music crutch and to take advantage of the beautiful nature – to listen to the sounds of the ocean, birds, monkeys, and wind.
However, for group leaders who insist that they “need” music in their yoga classes, we do provide an option with a large JBL Boom Box.
If music is really important to you as a teacher, please plan on coming with a backup. We do not offer any other audio-visual equipment.
If a teacher does need more in terms of audio-visual equipment, please plan on bringing it.
Blue Osa does not have a printer. We take great pride in being an eco-friendly resort and really try to walk to the talk. While we have a long way to go, we are currently 95% paperless.
Our emergency contact information is info@blueosa.com. We do not have a phone number to be reached at. We check our email regularly.
Sometimes a group leader will want to bring their own massage therapist/acupuncturist/spa therapist and ask if they might use the BLUE OSA SPA.
While we want to accommodate as many requests as possible, the Blue Osa Spa is specifically organized to provide our guests with a unique spa experience that is in line with our lifestyle and health philosophy. Additionally, Blue Osa shares a mutual commitment with our spa staff which not only guarantees reliable, high-quality spa services but also helps to support them, their families, and the local community.
If you are certain you would like to bring your own therapist, there is a use fee of $90 an hour. We will provide the sheets, towels, and the use of our spa creams for massages.
We typically book from Saturday to Saturday. Especially during the peak season.
We have found this style of booking works best for people’s travel schedules as well as for us. It helps us to maximize the use of the space.
For groups who would like to book more the 7 nights, (i.e a two or three week training) we will often request guarantees in terms of numbers of people and sometimes need you to choose the exclusive use options.
The minimum number to bring to Blue Osa is 10 people. At a minimum, you will be billed for 10 people.

For those retreat participants wishing to book extra nights at Blue Osa either before or after your retreat, all reservation requests must be made through our reservations system. The room rates for those wishing to book extra nights are based on room availability and our published seasonal rates. Please ask your clients to check for availability and rates at here
Morning silence is a way for us to honor the mornings and invite stillness. We ask that you build this sacred time into your week. Silence ends with a traditional sacred Himalayan chant.
The shuttle to and from the airport is included on the day your retreat begins and the day your retreat ends. If any participant needs a airport shuttle service on any other day, they will be charged a fee from Blue Osa.
We are very invested in the success of your retreat and want to honor the commitment you are making to come to Blue Osa. Once the contract is signed and the deposit is received, we want to help you hold the space for your retreat to be the most successful week possible for you. In order to make to make that happen, we want to help promote your retreat through our networks! Please fill out the details of your retreat as soon as possible, then we can also share information via Blue Osa social media too! If you have your own marketing plan and would like us not to promote your retreat, we are also happy to honor that request. Just please let us know.

Our typical healthy and delicious Blue Osa cuisine sample menu can be found here.
Kindly remind your guests of what they can expect to eat during their stay. We want to create a seamless dining experience while catering to the preferences of the group. For example, we only serve meat (mostly chicken) three times per week. We do not serve meat at every meal. While this is a non-issue for most, we tend to reiterate this point so that no one is disappointed should they have unmet expectations regarding personal food preferences.
If you want animal protein at every meal, please email us to receive our high protein menu option, which can be added for an additional fee.
Please let us know at least four weeks in advance if any changes need to be made to your group’s menu. If not, we will not be able to make any changes.
Meals will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Meals times are as follows:
* 5:00 Coffee and teas
* 7:30 Breakfast
* 12:00 Lunch
* 6:30 Dinner
• In order to create the space for reflection and growth, please acknowledge and promote our times for quiet which are after dinner from 9:30 until 7:30 in the morning each day. Please let your students know we practice morning silence until 7:30 AM. To help honor the silence and sacred moment of the morning, the internet is turned off from in the mornings until 7:30, and again in the evenings during dinner from 6:30 until 7:15.
• Help us to encourage your retreat participants to NOT to flush the toilet paper.
• The Blue Osa Yoga Studio is a sacred space and ask that it be held as such by your group. We will clean the yoga studio once a day and ask that after your classes, no mats are left on the floor and all the props are neatly stored. We ask that no open cups and shoes are brought into the yoga studio.
• With so many people sharing our community spaces, we ask that you remind your group to be neat, keeping all public spaces clean.
• We are an Eco-friendly retreat and want to cultivate mindfulness in the use of electricity, water, towels, and other resources here. Hair dryers and flat irons are not allowed. Please take opportunities to remind your participants to turn off all ceiling fans, bed fans and lights when leaving the room.
• Help us honor that there is no smoking on the property. Designated smoking areas are on the beach. There is a garbage can at the entrance.
• Please be aware that we DO NOT provide ANY printing services for you or your students at Blue Osa.
Check-in is at 2pm.
Check-out is at 10am.
Encourage your students to leave early on the day of check out no later than 11:00 AM. Saturdays are our change over days, and everyone is busy cleaning and preparing Blue Osa for the incoming group. Having people hang out all day is not ideal for us and for them. We do not serve lunch on the day of check-in and check-out. Our kitchen staff will not be available to cook any special meals.
Please give your guests the link to our FAQ page in your welcome package.
From Yogi Aaron:
In our experience, the more that the group leaders weave the magic of Blue Osa, the jungle, nature, their student’s erroneous perceptions into their classes and dharma talks, the more powerful of an experience it can be for everyone.
This place, Blue Osa, has an enormous power to heal and nurture. And at the same time, it has a powerful way of disturbing a person’s deepest samskaras. If a group leader is on top of it, many people leave with less of these disturbing samskaras, and are deeply transformed. The students leave with a deep feeling care, nurture and healing. Please kindly remember it is not our job to manage your people or “make them happy.” We are very clear on what we provide and what we do not provide. Our job, which we do really well, is to support the group leader to hold the space for all of this transformation to happen. Consider sharing our magazine with your community. https://www.blueosa.com/Blue-Osa-Magazine.pdf

A group leader needs to bring 15 people in order for you (the 16th) to stay free. (shared occupancy)
ADDITIONALLY If you bring more than 20 participants, you will receive a free 60 minute spa service from Blue Osa.
If the group leader would prefer a single room rather than sharing with someone else, when available, that would be offered at the single upgrade price of $790.
First and foremost, we encourage all potential group leaders to visit Blue Osa as you consider booking a retreat here. We feel strongly that having the first-hand experience of our community and the setting here at Blue Osa will energize you as you conceive and promote your retreat. We believe that you can promote better what you know, see, and feel. To facilitate this, please contact us to arrange for a discounted stay prior to or after signing a contract. This trip will also give you an opportunity to speak with the staff here in person and talk over your retreat, marketing ideas, and trip details.
This discounted stay is only for promotional purposes only and may not be used prior to or after your retreat.
Once your contract is signed, we will begin promoting your retreat on our website and in the multiple other social media outlets thereby linking your efforts with our network of friends and past guests. Additionally, we provide the opportunity for you to stay here free of charge as you book more participants for your retreat.
All payments are non-refundable and non transferable.
Once a retreat is booked, we all invest our energy and resources into making your retreat a complete success.
Refunds and a global lockdown or acts of God
As a policy, Blue Osa does not make refunds. If any cancellations are made due to extreme acts of God or something similar to a global pandemic, Blue Osa will hold any monies paid for a future retreat.
Each of our group leader package offers an allotment of rooms. The packages do not offer the option of changing to another package with less rooms once it is booked.
If you are wanting to bring a smaller group, consider coming during the Green season and choose the Harmony Leader Package. (Please see above. 👆 )
It is our hope that this happens for all of our group leaders!
Blue Osa reserves the right to book those rooms which you have not initially contracted to fill as part of your group contract. If you see the need for more rooms for your retreat, please contact us and let us know how many rooms you will need. We will work with you to make sure you have the rooms you need to make your retreat a success.
We offer four different contracts that help us to manage our reservations clearly and effectively. These contracts are not meant to limit your intention or goals but to help establish, at the very beginning of our relationship, a mutually respectful understanding of our responsibilities and opportunities.
In addition to our commitment to you and our Yoga Community, as stated in the Blue Osa Vision Statement, we are committed to caring for and supporting our local community. For us, this begins first with fulfilling our commitments to our staff, suppliers, and the many local resources that depend on us and you for their livelihood. (A community of over 100 members.)
The only way that we can successfully fulfill our responsibility to our community is by ensuring that as many people as possible visit here. The real way that this happens is by booking as many guests at Blue Osa as possible. And the way that you can help us to achieve this goal is first– by selling out your retreat and second – by recognizing that we will be booking those rooms that are not part of your contract. Only in this way are we able to maximize our resources and thereby broaden the scope of our community commitments.
The room rates are higher during some weeks of our Peak Season (December 15 – April 30). In thinking about this, you should consider the following: what is the most suitable time for you to bring your group?
If you are from the northern part of the United States and Canada, you might want to offer your retreat during the Peak Season when the temperatures are cold up north and warm at Blue Osa.
On the other hand, if you are from Florida, Texas or other parts of the southern United States, you might want to host your retreat during the Green Season (May 1 – December 14) when the temperature is cooler in Costa Rica. The possible afternoon rains are refreshing when it is so hot back home.
If a retreat leader books the exclusive use of Blue Osa and is not able to fill all the rooms, they may decide to release rooms back to us no later than 100 days before the commencement of the retreat. We will then change the terms of the contract for non-exclusive use to the Harmony or Faith Group Leader Package.
HOWEVER, please take note that the only type of contract we accept from December to the end of April are exclusive use contracts – Moksha and Freedom. There are no options to downgrade your contract.
1st Payment: 10% to be paid upon reserving and signing a contract
2nd Payment: 25% is to be paid 4 months prior to the retreat date
3rd PAYMENT: 25% is to be paid 2 months prior to the retreat date
FINAL BALANCE PAYMENT: To be paid 14 days before the retreat starts.
(The balance must be paid prior to the arrival of participants.)
The deposits for our exclusive use contracts, Moksha and Freedom are slightly different. See above.
Non-Refundable Retainer deposit to hold the retreat week is $4000:
1st Payment: $2000 To be paid upon signing of contract.
2nd Payment: $2000 Due 1 month after signing the contract.
3rd PAYMENT: $5000 Due 4 months before the start of the retreat
FINAL BALANCE PAYMENT: To be paid 60 days before the retreat starts.

Pura Vida (POO-rah VEE-dah), used by Costa Ricans since 1956, literally translated means “Pure Life.” Contextually, it means “full of life,” “purified life,” “this is living!” “going great” It is used as a greeting, a farewell, and to express satisfaction.
The phrase has become widely known in the United States and Europe. Some foreigners view the phrase as an expression of a leisurely lifestyle, and a disregard for time. However, Costa Ricans use the phrase to express a philosophy of strong community, perseverance, good spirits, enjoying life slowly and celebrating good fortune, whether small or large.
Pura Vida also means “I am doing alright”, “I am doing perfect” and “thank you”.
Expats who adopt the expression properly get a big smile in return. It is an acknowledgment of the Costa Rican attitude towards life.
The Hawaiian equivalent of Pura Vida is “Aloha!”
The “Osa” comes from the name of the Peninsula where we are located- the Osa Peninsula. Osa in Spanish means “female bear.”
Generally, Costa Rica is quite safe. Like any place, normal precautions and care should be taken depending upon where you are visiting.
Violent crime is rare in Costa Rica. Petty crime tends to be more common.
Big cities, or beach resort areas and any place with a concentration of tourists is more likely to draw thieves and such.
Since Blue Osa is located in the middle of the rainforest, we are lucky that we don’t have encounters like this.

Everyone is welcome at Blue Osa. Additionally, there are many ways to practice yoga. Quietly sitting on a chair watching the morning sunrise in silence is a form of yoga practice.
At Blue Osa, we focus on rest & relaxation and peace & tranquility; by communing with nature and getting back in touch with one’s inner self.
For this reason, we do not have TVs at Blue Osa.
As we are an eco-resort and are operated by solar power, hairdryers are NOT allowed at Blue Osa.
Blue Osa does have standard North American power outlets, so you may recharge your camera battery, etc.
Four of our rooms offer air conditioning – Om, Karma, Harmony, and Namaste.
We are a low-impact beachfront eco-hotel. Blue Osa works rigorously to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the surrounding environment. Thus, each of our rooms is equipped with a ceiling fan. The architectural design of Blue Osa allows for the constant flow of air through screen walls, creating a fresh and breezy environment.
To help some of our guests adjust to this tropical environment, four of our rooms offer air conditioning – Om, Karma, Balance, and Namaste.
For our other rooms that do not offer AC, we have found that the vast majority of our guests are always quite comfortable.
Laundry service is available at Blue Osa. The cost for this service is $29/load. Please expect your laundry to be returned within 24 – 48 hours.
Blue Osa offers a free WiFi service. This service is available in the main lounge area as well as the dining area. Since we practice mindfulness and silence in the mornings, the internet is turned off until 7:30 am.
The internet is also turned off again at dinner from 6:30 until 7:15 pm. We do not have any computers available for use.
While there are no phones in the rooms, guests are more than welcome to make calls at our office. The fee for this service is $2.00/min
International cell phone service here on the Osa can be sketchy, at best. Sometimes some phones will work, sometimes they won’t. We suggest you check with your service provider and ask them specifically about service in Costa Rica.
We do invite you to leave your cell phones and laptops at home and “unplug” from your life while you are on your vacation or retreat. We suggest you take full advantage of this remote paradise to concentrate on the peace and wilderness experience.
Come to disconnect and decompress!
We do allow children. But only during these activities:
1. During yoga teacher trainings immersions with Yogi Aaron, he does allow mothers to bring their children during the training. Please do keep in mind that we do not have any babysitting services on property or children’s day-care. Nor do we provide for them.
2. During group retreats, you may bring your children with permission from the group leader of that retreat.
Yes we have yoga mats available.
Our yoga studio is fully equipped with yoga props: chairs, blankets, sandbags and blocks.
We have a gift shop available, providing yoga clothes, t-shirts, local artwork and jewelry, suntan lotion, bug repellant, etc. Additionally, during our high season or when we have large groups, Blue Osa will typically host a “Farmers Market” for our guests.
We suggest NOT converting ANY money!
It is not necessary to convert any money to local currency (colones) as all businesses happily accept U.S. dollars (however, expect your change to be in colones).
We do suggest bringing many small bills so you do not have to receive any change in colones. The current rate of exchange fluctuates and is around 600 colones for every 1 US dollar.
• Please Contact Us to arrange a Blue Osa shuttle to and from the Puerto Jimenez Airport. Include your full name, arrival, and departure times on Nature Air or Sansa.

• Once the shuttle request form is received by us, a shuttle confirmation will be emailed to you.

When is the best time to visit South Pacific Costa Rica? Each month is exceptional in its own way. Here’s what you can expect when you visit:
December marks the beginning of the tourist season in Costa Rica. The temperature is nearly perfect, and everything is green and vibrant from the refreshing rains in September, October, and November. As a transitional month, December involves some rain (although lately with climate change, we have had almost no rain in December over the past few years). Visit during the first couple of weeks when there are fewer people but all of the benefits.
Average High Temperature: 28°C/82°F
January through April is summertime in Costa Rica.
Average High Temperature: 30°C/86°F
May and June transitions South Pacific Costa Rica from the dry season to the green season. The weather changes, and we are blessed with the occasional 20-minute cooling shower in the days. The moisture cools the air, creating comfortable temperatures. Everything’s bigger in May and June. Waves are larger for surfing; orchids are at their peak; sail fishing starts, and sport fishing gains traction. Now the rivers are really flowing, so it’s a great time for whitewater rafting and waterfall rappelling. Fewer people visit Costa Rica during this time, so you can avoid crowds.
Average High Temperature: 28°C/82°F
July and August and even September are the best-kept secrets in South Pacific Costa Rica. Warm, sunny mornings and rain-cooled evenings are a welcome break from summer in the United States and Southern Europe. This is also a popular time for Costa Ricans to vacation in the South Pacific region, and it’s your opportunity to mix with the locals. July marks the start of sea turtle season—which spans from July to December—and the region’s Tortuga Beach is one of their favorite nesting spots. You may experience the unexpected pleasure of witnessing a baby turtle release.
You may also enjoy the possibility of seeing Humpbacks up really close.
Average High Temperature: 28°C/82°F
October is a little rainier but still very pleasant. With more torrential rainfalls at night, the mornings in the afternoons are often filled with beautiful crips, clear skies leading us into a beautiful, refreshing rain in the late afternoon. Some of us foreign locals take great pleasure in being here during October due to the lack of tourists and crowds. It is one of the best times for whitewater rafting, river and waterfall swimming, and sea turtle viewing. This time is ideal for spotting other animals as well. The animals descend the mountains to take advantage of the fresh vegetation. You can see monkeys, sloths, frogs, coatis, butterflies, and tons of birds.
Average High Temperature: 28°C/82°F
November starts the transition from the rainy months. Everything is lush and green. There is still some rainfall, but it is less than half the average rainfall in October. The last couple of weeks of November are a great time to visit Costa Rica. The waves are moderate, sport fishing is good, and the beaches are breathtaking.
Average High Temperature: 28°C/82°F
Because the Osa Peninsula is blessed with fantastic weather year-round, there really isn’t a “best” time to visit. Most guidebooks list the ideal time to travel to Costa Rica as December through May. However, we enjoy a stable climate of 75-85 degrees relatively year-round.
Of course, don’t try looking for that information via online weather reports. Our private oasis is so off the map, Google has yet to find us. FUN FACT: The 19,730 miles (about the size of West Virginia) that make up Costa Rica actually house 20 different climate zones! The bottom line?
The time to visit is whenever you want! Take a moment to check out our weekly weather report and see for yourself!
We strongly encourage you NOT to check the weather report for Blue Osa (or Costa Rica for that matter) on the internet. It is usually wrong and does not give an accurate picture of what to expect.
Furthermore, as we have said in the other FAQ answers, Blue Osa is in its own microclimate, and there is no accurate reporting on what to expect.
Seriously, we are not kidding.
If you need some historical reference, please see our weather report page.
The Osa Peninsula (where Blue Osa is located) is characterized by warm, breezy days, with highs between 82 – 92 degrees, and lows in the range of 75 – 85. Please take note, however, that the Osa Peninsula IS part of the rainforest, and is surrounded by jungle.
See our weather report here.
Costa Rica is a tropical country located between 8 and 11 degrees north of the equator. It has twelve micro-climates, three different rainfall regimes, and many microclimates.
Costa Rica has a stable climate year round.
There are two well-defined seasons: the green season (Invierno) and the dry/summer season (Verano). The one main difference is rainfall averages.
The dry season runs from December to April and the green season from May to November. Rainfall averages for the country may reach the highest point during the months of September and October — approximately 650 mm per month. Seasonal changes don’t bring significant changes in temperatures. Although the nights may be fresher in some areas during the rainy season. Mornings are usually sunny all year round.
We have world-class surfing right in front our property. In town you may rent a surf board and bring it to Blue Osa and from here, explore. We can even arrange for you to take surf lessons if you interested in learning.
The beach is tranquil and typically deserted. You will see the occasional fisherman or family strolling by, usually on Sundays or holidays. If you do decide to sunbathe nude, we ask that you be sensitive to anyone that walks by. Please respect the local Catholic customs of the country. We invite any guests wanting to sunbathe nude to practice “conscious nudity.”
The beach is usually quite deserted, very scenic, and serene, providing opportunities for walks and exploration. There are no rip tides or undercurrents, which makes for some comfortable swimming.
We do not have any lifeguards on the beach.
Blue Osa is situated right on the beach, with tropical rainforest surrounding us on every other side. The beach is a 30-second walk from Blue Osa. This makes it easy for guests to wake up in the morning at sunrise and stroll down to the ocean for a morning swim as the jungle awakens.
Ecotourism is responsible travel to natural places. A commitment to conserving the environment and to the sustainability of the well-being of the local people.
Blue Osa practices sustainable tourism through recycling, water conservation, low impact tourism, organic gardening and education to our guests through awareness on and off the property.
We ask all guests who come to visit Blue Osa and the Osa Peninsula to help us keep this beautiful environment pristine.
Our water is constantrly tested to ensure your safety. Additionally, we provide filtered water in the dining area. As we do not allow open cups on our yoga deck, we do invite our guests to bring a water bottle, or they may purchase one in the Blue Osa store.
There is a 24-hour medical clinic located in Puerto Jimenez, only 20 minutes away from Blue Osa. Additionally, Puerto Jimenez has a 24-hour flight service that transports patients to the nearby hospital in Golfito (an eight-minute flight) or to San Jose (a forty-minute flight).
Medical care standards in Costa Rica are high. They are considered to be the best in Central America. San Jose, particularly, has excellent hospitals, medical facilities, and doctors that attend almost exclusively to foreign residents and travelers.
Our emergency contact information is info@blueosa.com. We do not have a phone number to be reached at. We check our email regularly.
We do not have problems with mosquitos here at Blue Osa. Since we are located on the beach, we enjoy a lot of sea breezes. There are no concerns about malaria or other diseases on the Osa.
Yes, our property is very secure.
Blue Osa is a remote jungle beach paradise. Often you will not see anyone on our beach. At night we have watchmen. And a safe in your room to protect your valuables.
This depends upon the carrier you fly. The general rule is a 30-pound baggage limit enforced on the “in-country” flight to/from Blue Osa. Baggage over 30 pounds will incur a surcharge, so pack light! Besides, how much clothing does a person really need in the tropics?
If you need more clarity, please double-check with airlines to find out exactly how much weight your baggage can be.

Immersions begin on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and commence on the final Friday evening. This will allow for the option of a Saturday morning departure.
We recommend arriving in Costa Rica one or two days prior to starting the immersion and would suggest arriving in Puerto Jimenez on Friday evening so as to settle into the space and enjoy your first sunrise on the beach.
Please note that should you miss hours for any reason, you will be required to make up the time prior to receiving your certification.

This training is an opportunity for you to uncover truths about who you are and how yoga can help you live a more authentic life.

Learn. Teach. Expand. Allow. This journey is for everybody.
In order to be presented with your 200 or 300-hr YTT certificate, you must complete the required reading and reports. These reports will be due three months following the completion of your immersion.
For example, if you completed your immersion on November 16th, your book reports would be due the following February 16th.
You’ll have plenty of time to work on your reports throughout the immersion or you have the option of completing the required texts prior to beginning the course. Once you’ve successfully registered, we’ll send you out the required reading material and you can decide for yourself when you’d like to get working.
Blue Osa is a recognized yoga school by Yoga Alliance.
Blue Osa provides a 200-hr foundational yoga teacher training that will equip you with the necessary learning to be a successful yoga teacher. This course will ensure you are confident in your alignment, cues, subtle anatomy and terminology. It’s a fantastic intro to teaching and will guarantee you success as you begin your teaching journey.
Blue Osa offers an advanced 300-hour teacher training that is available to students who have previously completed a 200-hr YTT (either through Blue Osa or another accredited school.) This course offers students the opportunity to deepen their foundational knowledge, enhance their teaching abilities and further develop their leadership skills as both a teacher and practitioner.
However, if you have had a history of practice in yoga, want to go further in your practice, AND do not want a certification, this program is right for you.
A 500-hr YTT would include both a 200 and 300-hr YTT or a 500-hr YTT respectively. Though many schools do not offer the latter and students cannot commit to the total time required, most teachers complete their 200 and 300 hours separately.
For more information on the differences, please read this article.
As a national accrediting organization for the yoga community, Yoga Alliance® provides a set of educational standards for yoga schools that specify hours or study in educational categories.
Blue Osa’s 200-hr RYT and 300-hr RYT with Yogi Aaron are accredited through Yoga Alliance®. Regardless of whether you join us for our 14 or 28-day YTT, you can register through this governing body upon receipt of your Blue Osa certification.
Blue Osa is now offering a 14-day Yoga Teacher Training Immersion.
While we think that the best option is for people to invest 28 days of their life into an immersion that will truly transform them at every level, we have had too many requests to offer this in the past.
If you do decide to do a 14-day immersion, with us or elsewhere, remember that the experience will NOT be the same as giving a month to this practice.

Also included in the yoga teacher training at Blue Osa is access to our Online Resource Library and the Self-Study Modules, which are a unique element of Blue Osa’s Yoga Teacher Training that sets it apart from other programs available today. Previous students have found it extremely valuable in developing their teaching once back home.
The Self-Study portion includes:
• 6 months of FREE access to the resource library.
• Ability to prepare in advance of your training if you wish (access is given prior to your training start date)
• Post-immersion support as you continue to study, learn, absorb, and embody the training content while completing all required assignments. This feature makes it possible for students to relax, explore, and enjoy the wild nature of Blue Osa outside of scheduled classroom time during their immersion (rather than filling free time with reading, studying, and completing required homework).
• Access to an entire resource library of yoga content to propel your practice and teaching forward, including yoga classes, meditations, workshops, and specialty courses like ‘How to Sell Out Your Yoga Retreats’ and ‘Business and Marketing for Yoga Teachers’.
Additionally, after the training, we offer ongoing support and communication with participants to ensure they leave Blue Osa as a safe, confident yoga instructor at NO additional charge.
Today, you can find so many shorter and cheaper yoga teacher training immersions. One of our renowned competitors in Costa Rica is offering a 14-day immersion that is a little less than what we currently charge for 28-days.
